Our weekend adventures consisted of a drive to Laguna Beach to support local artisans at the Sawdust Art Festival. This festival, as mentioned in a previous post, has been around since the 1960s. What began in a parking lot, has become one of the biggest annual events in the area. Located at 935 Laguna Canyon Road, tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance online. Ticket income goes directly to educating and promoting art in Laguna Beach. At this event you will find roughly 170 vendors selling any and all types of art: blown glass, jewelry, photos, paintings, clothing, and much more. There is also free live entertainment, and drinks and snacks available for purchase.
Although ALL the artists are commendable and display excellent works of art, there were a couple that we wanted to showcase…
~ BB’s Original Ear Art – Known as pierce less elegance, Hooker earrings are fashionable and fun! Alex aka Alejandra Velazquez-Chaibun owns the business and carries on Barbara Barnett’s legacy. Barbara Barnett created the concept back in 1983 and built a business that she loved, working hard every day until she passed away. Barbara trusted Alex with her business and now Alex continues to make the business flourish with her bubbly personality and creative designs. If you do not stop by the festival, visit her website: www.hooker-earrings.com. These earrings make awesome gifts, and you will definitely be able to show off a unique accessory that others don’t have!
~ WoodLind Home & Garden – These artists are a father/daughter duo by the names of Gwen and Carl Lind. They make night lights using their own art…some are photographs, some are paintings. The night lights look like mini framed photos with light bulbs behind them. The night lights began as expensive lamps, but since not all can make a large investment, the night lights came to be. These miniature art pieces are one of a kind! Be sure to visit their table or go online to https://artisannightlights.com/.
The Sawdust Festival only runs through Summer and is coming to a close on September 5th, but the good news is that there is another annual festival called Winter Fantasy! Located in the same area, Winter Fantasy will run from November 20 through December 19th. They have holiday arts and crafts, falling snow, a tree lighting, Christmas carolers, and children can visit with Santa Claus. As LeAnn Rimes sung, “put a little holiday in your heart,” and come check out what Sawdust has to offer. We might see you there!
Bells will be ringing,
