Well, we’ve actually had two nights at this landmark. We’ve seen…you guessed it…country artists! Our first time here was to see Kelsea Ballerini, and most recently, last night, Ashley McBryde, and Priscilla Block.
Located in Los Angeles at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, sits this Art Deco style theatre. Opened in 1931, this venue holds a maximum capacity of 2,300 people. While this remains one of the largest theatres in LA, it is still quite the intimate setting. The interior of this theatre has elegant tile work, terrazzo paving, and colorful murals that do not exist in many of today’s buildings. It is worth a visit if you want to see an artist up close and personal and have an appreciation for design. Given the venue’s rocky history, you may want to see a show sooner than later. The Wiltern has narrowly escaped closure twice. Another cool opportunity for those willing to spend the big bucks is to rent the Wiltern out for your own party. Yes, they do this! Lastly, the Wiltern is home to the Underground Lounge. It’s a cool way to relax before a show and get a parking spot! The lounge offers drinks and seating prior to shows. Heads up – it’s cash only.
Be aware, that the area is congested, and parking is rough so plan ahead when attending a show. Your best bet is to park at the Ralphs, but they do charge $25 (also cash only) for events.
Just a little information on the artists in case you were interested…
~ Kelsea Ballerini – Born in Tennessee in 1993, Kelsea puts on incredible shows. She has been songwriting since she was a little girl and has found her home in the country music industry. Some of her music transcends into the pop genre as well, and fun fact, her husband, Morgan Evans, is also a country musician. Some of her most popular songs include “Love Me Like You Mean It,” “Peter Pan,” “Dibs,” and “Yeah Boy.”
~ Priscilla Block – Born in California in 1995, although many sources say North Carolina, Priscilla released her single, “Just About Over You,” roughly one year ago. She was found on Tik Tok and her bubbly personality, body positive image, and relatable songs made her blow up! She is most known for her previously mentioned single, as well as “I Bet You Wanna Know,” and “Wish You Were the Whiskey.” She may be at the start of her career, but she undoubtedly has a huge future.
~ Ashley McBryde – Born in Arkansas in 1983, Ashley wrote her first song at the age 12 and self-released her own demo in 2006. According to various sources, she has always been drawn to music, playing her father’s guitar as a child, until she could afford her own. She embodies the true definition of country music…writing heartfelt songs and growing up in a household where the bible and the gun were easily accessible. Ashley McBryde has been on the scene for some time, but her career is just getting started. She is currently best known for, “Girl Goin Nowhere,” “One Night Standards,” and “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega.” Fun Fact – she was born a different year, but has the same birthday as Troy!
Now for some pictures…
We look forward to seeing another awesome show at this spot!
Until then…Headphones On, World Off,
