When people have bad news, we always like to get it out of the way before the good. So…without further ado…the bad news. The annual festival was cancelled this year due to COVID-19, but the good news…there was a mini holiday pop-up in Carpinteria over the weekend.
For those of you that don’t know, the Santa Barbara Sea Glass and Ocean Arts Festival occurs annually on the second Saturday of September at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. Although this is a newer festival, with its first event in 2015, it made a huge splash in the area with its uniqueness. This celebration is full of beach vibes, ocean-inspired art, and local arts. If you like sea glass, seashells, or seriously friendly people, this is the event for you!
You might wonder, what is sea glass? It’s one of our favorite treasures – we like to call ourselves sea glass hunters. 😊 Sea glass is glass that has been naturally weathered by tumbling in salt water. Essentially, this glass is trash that was dumped into the ocean at some point in time, eventually finding itself on the shoreline. It will typically have a frosted appearance and can take anywhere from 20-200 years to get its smooth texture. Whenever we go to the beach, we search high and low for sea glass. It may be trash to some, but it is our treasure, and we enjoy displaying our finds in our home. It’s free décor, a free activity, and it cleans the environment…it’s a win win win for us!
Although, we couldn’t enjoy this festival to its full capacity this year, we were still able to go to Carpinteria over the weekend and enjoy artists on a smaller scale. This pop-up showcased 20 local artists who featured jewelry, stationary, wall art, clothing, pottery, and more. It was a blast!
See below the goodies that we purchased and take a look at some of the amazing creations from these artists.
Remember to check out the festival website at https://www.santabarbaraseaglassandoceanartsfestival.com/ so you can attend in the upcoming years.
Also be on the lookout for our upcoming post on Carpinteria. This small town is a regular weekend stop for us. We will tell you about our musts for a great weekend adventure in the area. While visiting, we hit the beach for a nice walk and found some goodies as well!
Love Birds Biggest find of the day!
