Alright Y’all – cue the beach playlist and prepare to be awestruck. 😍
This was one of the best SoCal finds that Troy and I stumbled upon. Driving the coast and trying to decide what beach to try out, we saw a sign that read, “El Pescador State Beach,” and we thought, why not?
We turned in and found a small parking lot that takes you right to a steep incline leading to the beach. The parking lot is small…and by small, I mean VERY small. Only about 20 cars can fit in the lot, but there is parking alongside PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) as well. The lot is operated by the state so there are parking fees, but they are significantly more reasonable than the other beach parking rates I’ve seen.
Long story short, we parked and headed down the incline to the sand. I recommend that you wear good sandals or sneakers because it is moderately challenging going up and down the hill. After about five minutes of walking downhill and taking some stairs, we hit the sand. It felt like another world. What beach in California have you been to where you are virtually alone? We felt like we hit the jackpot.
Looking to the right, there is actual beach to lay down and relax at, while looking to left, our jaws dropped to the ground. There are rocks and tidepools that you can climb and investigate regardless of the tide. If it’s low tide, and the shoreline is exposed, you’ll be in for a real treat. You will see shells that look like they came from the shores of Hawaii. I’m talking conch, cowrie, abalone, and more. We were transported right back to our Hawaiian honeymoon. (PS – Throwback blog(s) coming soon on our Hawaiian adventures…stay tuned.) You will likely see crabs walking around but do be aware that jellyfish wash up sometimes too.
Now that I have basically typed myself into heading back over there now, I will just say you gotta see this beach!! But please don’t go too often so we still have an empty beach when we go, LOL!! #sortofkiddingbutnotreally
Brainstorming our next adventure,
